Carotenoide geeft de vogels hun kleur. We kunnen deze opdelen in 3 categorieen.
Astaxanthine: is de krachtigste caratonoiden. Komt voor uit speciale alg wat bijvoorbeeld de flamingo eet en de antartica krill,zalm,krab en garnaal.
Luteine en zeaxanthine: komt o.a voor in goudsbloem, tagetes soorten en boerenkool.
Lycopeen: caratonoiden wie bijvoorbeeld de tomaat en watermeloen kleurt. Komt ook voor in de rozenbottel.
In deze kleurenmix zitten natuurlijke caratonoiden van diverse soorten algen zoals spirulina, Chlorella, ijslandse zeewier en micro alg Haematococcus pluvialis. (Astaxanthine in pure vorm)
